Among numerous salsa events in Southern Russia the most significant one is undoubtedly “The Third Front” festival. As it might seem initially a fairly strange title of the festival can actually be easily explained. Rostov-on-Don is the third city after Moscow and St. Petersburg where an active salsa community has been established, the main developer being Boogaloo Club (founder of which is Marina Vaniushina). The first festival that took place in August of 2002 was given a title of “The Opening of The Third Front” which later became a definitive brand of all the consecutive events of this kind. As all annual festivals of this series are based on a certain theme, each of them gets assigned a specific slogan.
The slogan of the 2009 festival is “Flash Mob”.
